Schilthorn is known for two reasons: its stunning vistas and James Bond. The 2,970-meter (9,744 feet) high Schilthorn was made famous by the 1969 movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."

A LICENSE TO CHILL

The Schilthorn Cable Car takes visitors up to Piz Gloria, gliding past more than 200 majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps, the Bond soundtrack playing in the background.

As you exit the cable car, you are immediately surrounded by the magical landscape and exposed to the chill of the mountain air. The expansive panorama that spans from the trio of Jungfrau, Münch, and Eiger to the Jura Mountains and the Black Forest, can be enjoyed from the outdoor terrace as well as the revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria.

007 BOND WORLD AND WALK OF FAME

At the interactive movie museum, Bond World, wannabe MI6 agents can simulate the breathtaking bobsled and chopper rides, and throw their hat skillfully onto the hook in Miss Moneypenny’s office. There are clips from "on Her Majesty's Secret Service" and a video that reveals fascinating insights on how the movie was made. The Walk of Fame takes you past memorabilia from the film's cast and crew.

You can take a selfie with the life-size George Lazenby cutout standing on the helicopter landing platform or enjoy a legendary "Martini, shaken not stirred" at the James Bond Bar.

HOW TO GET TO SCHILTHORN

It takes a few steps to get to Schilthorn. First, take the Berner-Oberland train from Interlaken, Bern or Lucern to Lauterbrunnen, then the cable car to Grütschalp (just outside the train station), where you change to the narrow gauge train, Lauterbrunnen-Mürren Mountain Railway (BLM) to Mürren. Spend the night in Mürren or walk straight through the village to the cable car station to go up to Schilthorn.

It’s a relatively short trip, only about 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) in total distance, and the views of the Swiss Alps and the Lauterbrunnen Valley with its waterfalls are spectacular.

Note: A visit to Schiltorn can easily be combined with Jungfrau. Read about how to visit Jungfrau here: Destination - Top of Europe-Jungfraujoch
